The Hen and Stag Surf Review | Hen Party Idea & Stag Party Idea
So every now and then we like to go out and try out some of our activities packaged with us. On the 18th June, myself (Fergal) and Nick (the guy with the fake tan) went out to Perfect Day Surf School to try out the Surfing. The surf school is located in Strandhill which is world famous as a surf destination. For anybody who hasn't been to Sligo, it's really a must-see village with loads of lovely bars, restaurants surrounded by some incredible scenery and sandy beaches. When we arrived at the Surf School we were given a warm 'Aloha' by Tom Hickey, the lead instructor. They have a really cool base-camp premises with great changing rooms and chill out area. Tom and his team get everyone in the group kitted out in wetsuits, booties and then it's a short walk down to the beach.
When you arrive down at the beach the instructor goes through everything you need to know in order to get started. I was a complete beginner and my swimming skills would be quite basic (I can barely do lengths of my bath) but after getting into the water I managed to briefly stand on the board with some assistance from the instructor. We were out for about 1.5 hours and the time flew. Nick had been out surfing before and managed to get standing on the board quite easily.
When we finished the surf we had built up a great appetite and thirst!. Given it was a Sunday, we popped by the Strandhill People's Market and is located just next door to Perfect Day Surf School. It's a really cool pop-up market that's on every Sunday with loads of great craft shops and food vendors. So after looking after our appetite, we felt we needed to address our thirst and headed down to the Strand for a nice refreshing Guinness. The Strand Bar is like the Durty Nelly's of Bunratty - a must see pub with a must have Pint of Creamy Guinness. I would highly recommend it as a hen party idea or a stag party idea and it could even be something for the Sunday of a stag weekend before heading home. You can't beat the wild salty Atlantic sea air for the reinvigorating feel good factor!
