Some of the key festival dates in Sligo for 2018
Here are some festivals in Sligo that might be of interest if you are planning a hen or stag party
We are often asked about the festivals on in Sligo each year that might suit a hen or stag party. Well here is a couple of the best ones we think are worth considering when planning a hen or stag party.
1. Sligo Races - May Bank Holiday
There is approximately 8 race meeting each year at Sligo Races, but many say the first race meeting on the May Bank Holiday is the best. There are capacity audiences and the style is incredible. It is a lunchtime meeting on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday so perfect to allow your party to get down and enjoy the festival atmosphere in Sligo after the races. It is worth noting that this is a peak weekend and it is advised to get bookings this early. Check out the Sligo Races Stag Package and Hen Package.
2. Sligo Summer Festival
One of the best town centre based festivals in Sligo is the Sligo Summer Festival and it takes place the weekend after the August Bank Holiday. It is based on the riverfront in Stephen's Street car-park and has a big line-up on Friday and Saturday Night with previous headliners including Sister Sledge, The Saw Doctors, the Blizzards and Aslan to name a few. Due to its popularity, bookings for this weekend tend to be very strong so we advise early booking on this weekend as well. The dates for the festival this year will be 10th & 11th August.
3. Strandhill Surf Festival
The Co. Sligo Open surf festival is one of the longest running surf contests in the country and is based in the world-renowned surf village of Strandhill which is about 15 minutes from Sligo Town Centre. It takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend and normally attracts big crowds. Aside from the fact that the festival is great fun, it takes place in one area of Sligo we at Hen and Stag Sligo really recommend going to if you can. 4. Bank Holiday Weekends in Sligo
It's a given that each Irish Bank Holiday and the May/September UK Bank Holiday weekends are absolutely brimming in Sligo. These are the peak weekends for Hen and Stag Sligo and we always reach capacity on them. In general, most of our accommodation partners have a two night minimum for these weekends and groups normally come on the Friday and Saturday nights with the exception of the May Bank Holiday which is mixed due to the Sligo Races which takes place on the Sunday of the weekend.
